Mr. Richard F. Ellenberg, 87 of Adel, Georgia passed away on June 20, 2021 at his residence. Mr. Ellenberg was born on October 27, 1933 in Pelzer, South Carolina to the late Vernon Monroe Ellenberg and Willie McHugh Ellenberg. He served in the United States Air Force and retired from the United States Army, serving in the Korean Conflict and two tours in the Vietnam War. Mr. Ellenberg also retired from Civil Service at Moody Air Force Base in Valdosta, Georgia, where he was a supervisor in the Education Office. Mr. Ellenberg was a member of the Antioch United Methodist Church and had lived the past 43 years in Cook County.
Mr. Ellenberg is survived by his wife of 65 years, Mrs. Johnnie Lou Crosby Ellenberg of Adel; his son and daughter-in-law, Mike and Shari Ellenberg of Somerset, Kentucky; three grandsons and one granddaughter-in-law: David Ellenberg of Lexington, Kentucky, Daniel and Haley Ellenberg of Somerset and Matthew Ellenberg of Somerset; one great grandson, Sammy Ellenberg of Somerset; a brother and sister-in-law, Charles and Mamie Ellenberg of Pelzer, South Carolina; and a sister, Nancy E. Schaeffer of California.
A graveside service will be held at 10:00 AM on Wednesday, June 23, 2021, at the Antioch Church Cemetery with Rev. Rich Wardwell and Rev. Christy Bandy officiating; eulogies will be provided by Mr. Ellenberg's grandsons: David, Daniel and Matthew Ellenberg. Ellen Wiggins will sing "This Is My Country." Interment will follow with Military Honors provided by the Vietnam Veterans of America Chapter 1090. The family requests no flowers or memorials.
