Rev. Wayne Mitchell, age 83, of Nashville, Georgia, passed away on Sunday, October 13, 2024 at his home. He was born in Cook County on December 26, 1940 and lived there most of his life before moving to Berrien County 27 years ago. Rev. Mitchell was the son of the late Frank Witherspoon Mitchell and the late Ava Merle Connell Mitchell. He was a retired minister and a member of New Lois Community Methodist Church. He also served formerly in the U.S. Army Reserve.

Rev. Mitchell is survived by his wife of 58 years, Dorothy Hoffpauir Mitchell of Nashville; two sons: Jim (Catja) Mitchell of Cumming, Georgia, and John Mitchell of Warner Robins, Georgia; two granddaughters: Madeline Mitchell of Cumming, Georgia and Megan Mitchell of Suwanee, Georgia; two sisters: Bettye Fleuren of Johnson City, Tennessee, and Debbie and Mike Bradford of Adel, Georgia; brothers-in-law and sister-in-law: Cecil and Judy Hoffpauir, and Guary Hoffpauir. He is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, Rev. Mitchell was preceded in death by two brothers, James Gordon Mitchell and Bobby Joe Allen (and Bobby Joe's wife, Martha).

The funeral services for Rev. Mitchell took place on Tuesday, October 15, 2024 at 3:00 PM at New Lois Community Methodist Church (2978 South Coffee Road, Nashville, Georgia 31639) with Rev. John Stephens III, Rev. Sarah Faulkner and Rev. Thomas Parrish officiating. Visitation was held at the church from 1:00 to 3:00 PM prior to the funeral service. Rev. Mitchell was interred at Woodlawn City Cemetery in Adel immediately following the funeral service. The congregation sang "How Great Thou Art" and "Victory in Jesus" at the service and Carter Akins played piano. Mike Bradford, Mike Lunsford, Slaton Lunsford, Daniel Fleuren, Blake Jenkins and Tyler Jenkins served as pallbearers.
