Moultrie, GA - John Eugene "Gene" Henry West, 80, of Moultrie, passed away at his residence, surrounded by his family on Friday, August 29, 2025.

Funeral services were held at 4:00 pm on Monday, September 1, 2025, at First Baptist Church Moultrie with Reverend Matt Peek and Reverend Wayne Woods officiating. Interment will follow at Cobb-Suncrest Memorial Gardens. Scotty Jarvis, Robert Paul Walden, Brian Hunt, Ashley Hunt, John McFarland, Gabe Horne and Stephen West will be pallbearers.

The family received friends from 2:30-4:00 PM at the church.

Born June 23, 1945, in Moultrie, Georgia, he was the son of the late Joseph Lightle West and Mollie Mae Hill West. A lifelong resident of Moultrie, Georgia, Mr. West was known for his warm spirit, generosity, and unwavering dedication to his family, faith, and community. He faithfully served for many years as a deacon at First Baptist Church of Moultrie, where his quiet strength and servant heart touched the lives of many. He served for numerous years as a member of the choir at First Baptist Church in Moultrie, singing for many years.

Mr. West was also a proud and active member of the Kiwanis Club and the Shriners, contributing his time and energy to countless local projects and charitable efforts. His commitment to helping others extended beyond his civic involvement and was evident in the compassionate care he provided during his years at the helm of Crystal Pharmacy.

Outside of his professional and community service, Mr. West was a devoted family man. He cherished every moment spent with his children and grandchildren, and his happiest days were those spent outdoors—hunting, fishing, and sharing stories with loved ones.

Mr. West leaves behind a legacy of kindness, faith, and dedication. He will be deeply missed by his family, friends, and all who had the honor of knowing him.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, Cecil Isaac West, Sr.

Mr. West is survived by his loving wife, Judy Williams West of Moultrie; children, Dr. Joseph Eugene West and wife Meredith of Gainesville, Georgia and Amanda West Horne and husband Chad of Norman Park, Georgia; grandchildren, Gabe Horne, Chandler Horne, Stephen West, and Anna West; and sisters, Elizabeth West Poole of Moultrie, Georgia, Juanita West McFarland of Funston, Georgia; and several nieces and nephews.
