Rev. Harold Eugene Covey, 86, of Norman Park, passed away on Sunday, April 14, 2024, at Colquitt Regional Medical Center.
Memorial services with military honors will be held on Friday, April 19, 2024, at 11:00 a.m., in the chapel of Baker Funeral Home with the Rev. Eugene Strickland officiating with the inurnment at Baker/Hillcrest Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends and family immediately following the service.
Born on June 26, 1937, in Waldron, Michigan, he was the son of the late Walter Emerson Covey and Oletha Fondessy Covey. After his mother passed when he was eight years old, his stepmother Irene Covey loved and cared for him. The Rev. Covey was a devoted Baptist minister. Throughout his years of service, Harold touched the lives of countless individuals with his inspiring sermons and compassionate spirit. His unwavering commitment to his faith and his congregation served as a guiding light for many, offering comfort and solace in times of need. He would often offer guidance and support during times of joy and sorrow. After faithfully serving as a minister, the Rev. Covey became a faithful member of Pine Level Baptist Church in Norman Park. His service in the United States Air Force showcased his dedication to his country and his willingness to sacrifice for the greater good.
In addition to his mother and father, he was preceded in death by his stepmother, Irene Covey; grandson, Christopher Earl Gay; and sister, Darlene Covey.
He is survived by his loving and faithful wife of 32 years, Myrtle Griffin Covey of Norman Park; children, Leigh Covey of Guyton, Georgia, Heidi Simpson and husband Tim of Chinquapin, NC, Hal Covey and wife Siobhan of Christchurch, New Zealand, Chris Covey and wife Tina of Richmond Hill, Sherri Strickland and husband Pastor Eugene of Norman Park, Sheila Wright and husband Eugene of Honea Path, SC and Sonya Giddings and life partner Eric Hall of Norman Park; nine grandchildren; sixteen great-grandchildren; brother, Tim Covey of Ohio; and stepsister, Mary Lou Henry and husband Dan of Texas; and several nieces and nephews.
