Gerald  Psalmond
MOULTRIE, GA. - Gerald W. Psalmond, 79, of Moultrie, died Thursday, October 10, 2019 at Colquitt Regional Medical Center.
Memorial service, with military honors, will be held 2:00PM Tuesday, October 15, 2019 at Cobb Funeral Chapel with the Rev. Ron Shiver and the Rev. Trey Eakins officiating. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service on Tuesday.
The Colquitt County Association of Volunteer Firefighters will serve as honorary casketbearers.
Gerald W. Psalmond was born to the late Gordon and Frances Psalmond on April 7, 1940 in Moultrie, Georgia. After graduating from high school, he joined the Air Force. Gerald served in the Air Force for 21 years. He retired as a Tech Sergeant. He earned the Bronze Star in Vietnam. He served as a fire fighter throughout his career. After retiring from the military, he settled in Mississippi. He met his wife, Jean and was married for 32 years. Gerald and Jean returned to Moultrie to help care for his mother. Shortly after returning to Moultrie, the Colquitt County Commissioners approached Gerald to serve as Volunteer Fire Fighter Coordinator to help improve the fire system. He was able to provide training and raise funds to help bring the fire department to a new level including 911. The county now carries a class 5 ISO rating with a pumper and tanker in all 4 divisions. He was also instrumental in starting the first responders' program in the State of Georgia. He held this position for 13 years. His teaching career continued after serving as coordinator. He taught new fire fighters at Wiregrass Technical College. Mr. Psalmond was a member of Funston Baptist Church and has two grandchildren following in his footsteps by actively serving in the military.
Survivors include his wife, Jean Louise Gordavier Psalmond of Moultrie; children, Lynn Hughes and husband Marshall, LeeAnn Streetman and husband, Brad, Krissy Mendoza and husband Henry, Stacy Burr and husband Jon, Michael Humbers and wife Diane; ten grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

He is a special angel now. As he was a special man, husband, father, and grand father. Rest In Peace
