Cynthia "Cindy" Anne Yancey Montgomery, 79, of Moultrie, Georgia, died on Saturday, February 17, 2024, at her home.

She was a beloved wife, mother, sister, grandmother, friend, and prayer warrior who gave selflessly and lived her life faithfully serving her Lord and Savior. A celebration of life will be held on Wednesday, February 21, 2024, at 2 p.m. at First Baptist Church of Moultrie with the Rev. Matt Peek and the Rev. Dr. Hugh B. Ward officiating.

Mrs. Montgomery was born June 23, 1944, in Austin, Texas, the daughter of the late Byron Taylor Yancey, Sr. and the late Faye Ruth Phelps Yancey. During her early years, she and her family moved many times while her father served in the U.S. Army, including two-and-a-half years in Japan. After living in Texas for four years, her family settled in Albany, Georgia, where she was a member of First Baptist Church. As a child and teenager, Mrs. Montgomery was involved in Girls Auxiliary, where she achieved the highest award of Queen Regent in service.

She also sang in choir and was a member of the Sextet singing group. In her adult years, Mrs. Montgomery served as both a GA and Acteens leader and director, and Sunday school teacher for the Over Age 40 Adults.

Mrs. Montgomery graduated from Albany High School in 1962 and then attended South Georgia Junior College, where she won the Miss Coffee County Pageant and went on to compete in the 1963 Miss Georgia Pageant. She earned a bachelor of science degree in early childhood education from Piedmont College and then taught school for 32 years, retiring as a pre-kindergarten teacher at Sunset Elementary School in Moultrie. Because of her love for children, she continued to serve as a substitute teacher and tutor.

Mrs. Montgomery was a member of First Baptist Church Moultrie, where she was part of the choir, served with the shut-in ministry, taught the "Single Again" classes, and volunteered in the nursery. She also volunteered with Heritage Church's Storehouse.

Survivors include her husband, Robert "Bob" Montgomery, Jr.; children, Wendy (Greg) Aldridge of LaGrange, Georgia; Shelley (Allen) Sweat of West Palm Beach, Florida; Trey (Cindy) Montgomery of Moultrie; and Mary Beth (Brian) Horton of Clarkesville, Georgia; brother, Byron Taylor (Rebecca) Yancey, Jr. of Charlotte, North Carolina; grandchildren, Mitchell (Lindsey) Aldridge of Columbus, Georgia; Spencer Aldridge of Columbus; Anna Beth Aldridge of Carrollton, Georgia; Chloe Richardson of Denver, Colorado; Sophia Sweat of West Palm Beach, Florida; Cameron (Melanie) Calvert and Andrew Sweat, both of Bradenton, Florida; Evan Gambill of Macon, Georgia; Madeline Horton of Athens, Georgia; Jack Horton, Caroline Horton and Walter Horton, all of Clarkesville, Georgia; several nieces and nephews; and many cousins.

Visitation will be 12-1:30 p.m. Wednesday at First Baptist Church of Moultrie.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to First Baptist Church of Moultrie or the Alzheimer's Association.
