Margaret Elizabeth Layton, 92, of Nashville, died Saturday January 14, 2017 at her residence.
She was born June 10, 1924 in Moultrie to the late Charlie Floyd Butler and the late Emily Pennie Steed Butler. She was a homemaker, a retired bank teller with Moultrie Banking Co and for many years was a substitute teacher with the Berrien County Board of Education. She was a member of the Nashville First Baptist Church and served as WMU Director for over 20 years. She was the widow of Arthur Cecil Layton who died in 1998. She was also preceded in death by a son-in-law: Carroll Marvin Casteel; 2 sisters: Virginia Butler Bennett and Anna Butler; brother: Charlie Floyd Butler, Jr.
She is survived by her daughter: Elizabeth Pennie Casteel of Moultrie; son: Richard Layton of Nashville; granddaughter: Emily Elizabeth Casteel of Moultrie; 3 nieces: Anna Virginia Bennett of Moultrie, Clara Bennett Morey of Atlanta and Cindy Butler LeBlanc of Atlanta; nephew: Mike Butler of South Carolina.
Funeral services will be held Monday January 16, 2017 at 2 PM in the Nashville First Baptist Church with the Rev. Keith Stewart and the Rev. Danny Ray officiating. Interment will follow in the Westview Cemetery in Moultrie. Visitation is Monday at the church one hour prior to the service.
