Annie's Story

Miss Annie Ruth Freeman, 99, of Omega, Georgia, passed away on February 4, 2017 at her residence. She was born May 7, 1917 to Charlie C. and Lula Sumner Lanier Freeman. She was a lifelong resident of Colquitt County. She was preceded in death by her parents, her sister, Birdie Mae Lanier Stanford and brother-in-law, Jessie Stanford, and niece and nephew, Geneva Ruth Standford McMillan and Willie J. McMillan; and infant niece.
She is survived by two great nieces, Shirley Ruth McMillan and Kay McMillan Powell, both of Adel, Georgia; a great-great-nephew Jonathan Jay Powell and his wife Jenny; and one great-great-great-nephew, William McMillan Powell, all of Lynnwood, Wash.; and many cousins.
Her professions included salesperson and farmer, and she enjoyed holding yard sales and flea marketing for many years.
She was beloved by her local church communities and was a lifelong member of the Leila United Methodist Church where she taught many young children in Sunday School. She also served as Sunday School treasurer for many years. She was well known for aiding and helping others in times of need. She was especially well-known for her coconut cakes, egg custards and apple tarts.
Visitation will be from 1:00 to 2:00 PM Tuesday, February 7, 2017 at the Leila United Methodist Church. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 PM. The Reverends Jimmy Voyles and Walter Powell will officiate. Patricia Dunn will be the pianist, providing the music. Chuck Jinright will lead the congregation in singing two of her favorite hymns, "In The Garden" and "I Will Sing The Wondrous Story." Special selections to be played will be "What A Friend We Have In Jesus" and "How Great Thou Art." Pallbearers will be Julian Bennett, Tim Stephens, Charles Sumner, Richard Hardy, Charles Robinson and Matt Thompson. Interment will follow at the Salem Baptist Church Cemetery in Tift County.
The family wishes to thank all neighbors, friends, relatives and Hospice of Tift Area, especially Landon, Wanda, Jill, Blakely and Vernadette.
Miss Annie Ruth will celebrate her 100th birthday in Heaven. Her friends will remember and honor her at the Leila United Methodist Church Homecoming on May 7, 2017.
