Miss Sonja Marie Bridges, 64, entered into rest on Monday, September 11, 2017 at Colquitt Regional Medical Center.
Funeral service will be at 11:00 AM, Saturday, September 16, 2017 at Mother Easter Baptist Church. Interment will follow in the Bridges Memorial Gardens, with the repast to conclude at the Emory H. Hopkins Fellowship Hall.
Sonja was born on August 4, 1953 in Camilla, Georgia to the late Thomas W. Bridges and the late Florence Caesar Bridges. She is the 4th child out of 8 children.
She attended the public schools of Moultrie, and was a graduate of Fort Valley State University. She was employed as a School Social Worker in the Colquitt County Schools. During her professional career, she trusted the lives of many families, both parents and children. She worked untimely with other agencies to meet the need of her families. Sonja was a strong and courageous woman who taught the value of honesty, trust, compassion, perseverance and the importance of keeping a spiritual focus. She led a life of extraordinary courage and struggle. She was a woman of exceptional grace and dignity sent to us by God after such a time as this.
Having been reared in a Christian home, she was inspired by her environment and accepted Christ as her personal savior at an early age. She inherited a rich legacy of faith, family and church. She united with Walker Street Church of God in Christ and later joined Mother Easter Baptist Church in Moultrie, Georgia. Her character and love for her church was shown throughout her life. She worked and was actively involved in many ministries and auxiliaries of Mother Easter Baptist Church. Her primary concern was that of inspiring, teaching and motivating the youth of the church. She worked diligently and faithfully until her health declined.
Miss Bridges answered the call of our Heavenly Father on Monday, September 11, 2017. She was preceded in death by her parents.
She leaves her legacy of love and reconciliation to her loving family, CSM Curtis Thomas (Barbara) of Evans, Georgia, Christine Bridges Herring of New Brunswick, New Jersey, Theotis Bridges (Cynthia) of Moultrie, Georgia, Denise Bridges Todd (Charles) of Norman Park, Georgia, Treasea Bridges of Moultrie, Georgia, SFC Roy Bridges (Anita) of McDonough, Georgia and Erica Bridges Balkcom (Lewis) of Norman Park, Georgia; special friends, Carol, Evelyn, Barbara, Vickie and Belinda; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
Visitation will be Friday, September 15, 2017, 5:00 PM until 7:00 PM, at Luke Strong and Son Mortuary Chapel.
Final arrangements were entrusted to Luke Strong and Son Mortuary, Ltd.
