Mr. Philip Bates, 82, of Dawson died Saturday, April 15, 2017 at Phoebe Putney Memorial Hospital.
The funeral service was held at 11:00 AM on Tuesday, April 18, 2017 at Banks Funeral Home Chapel with interment to follow in Paulk's Chapel Cemetery.
Mr. Bates was born on June 11, 1934 in Colquitt County to the late Charlie and Valley Davis Bates. He had lived in Worth County for most of his life before moving to Terrell County where he had lived for the past 26 years. Mr. Bates worked as a Painting Contractor. He enjoyed fishing, hunting, working on boats and could fix anything. He loved his family and enjoyed spending time with them.
Survivors include his wife, Carolyn Bates of Dawson; children, Ricky Eastham (Betty Jo) of Greenville, FL, Debbie Booth (Ray) of Scooterville, Kathy Davis (Jerry) of Norman Park, Mark Bates of Tempy and Philip Steven Bates (Julia) of Terrell County; grandchildren, Chris Eastham, Candice Eastham, Chelsea Eastham, Dustin Booth (Tiffany), Ashley Tucker (Eric), Jessica Davis, Morgan Davis, Baylee Davis, Mark Bates, Jr. (Ashley) Samantha Bates, Sarah Bates, Lexi Bates, Lea Bates and Kaci Bates; 10 great-grandchildren; brother, Lee Bates; sisters, Carolyn Harrod and Hazel Wilson and numerous nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, Mr. Bates was preceded in death by a grandchild, Lindsey Booth and 7 siblings.
The family received friends on Tuesday from 10:00 AM until the service hour at Banks Funeral Home.
