MOULTRIE, Ga. -- PFC Nicholas Christian Martinez, 22, of Moultrie, Ga. died Thursday, November 23, 2017.
Funeral service, with military honors, will be held 2:00PM Saturday, December 2, 2017 at Cobb Funeral Chapel with the Rev. Brad Bowen officiating. Interment will be in Cobb-Suncrest Memorial Gardens.
Born May 3, 1995 in Albany, Ga., he was the son of Rolando Flores Martinez and Donna Lynn McCarty Martinez of Moultrie Ga. Mr. Martinez was a 2014 graduate of Colquitt County High School and was a member of the 50th Regiment Marching Band Drum Line. Upon graduation he attended Georgia Southern University where he majored in music and performed at school events. Because of his talent and love for music he was able to perform across the United States with a Drum Corps expedition team. One could often find Nick in his spare time playing video games, spending time with his nieces and nephews or tussling with his "true love" his dog Toby. On Sunday afternoon the house would be filled with excitement as the family cheered for the Atlanta Falcons. In 2016, following in his parent's footsteps, he joined the Army. Upon completing basic training and Airborne School at Ft. Benning, Ga, he was transferred to Fort Bragg, N.C., where he was training to be a member of Special Forces.
He was preceded in death by his grandparents, Guadalupe and Manuel Martinez.
In addition to his parents, survivors include a brother, Rolando Martinez Jr.; two sisters, Haley Nicole Martinez of Moultrie, Ga., Michelle Renee Martinez of New York; grandparents, Vickie Demott of Moultrie, Ga., Lamar McCarty of Decatur, Tn.; great-grandmother, Gwen Demott Colson of Moultrie, Ga.
