Nadine's Story

MADISON, Fla. -- Nadine Fussell Newsom Dunlap, 93, died peacefully on January 9th, 2017 at Southern Living for Seniors, a caring and loving assisted living home in Madison, Florida. Her funeral service will be held at Midway Freewill Baptist Church in Moultrie, Ga. on Saturday, January 14th at 11:00 a.m. with the Rev Randy Jackson and Rev Bob Laidlaw officiating. Interment will follow in Pleasant Grove Cemetery.
Casketbearers will be Tommy Gibbs, Rick Lanoue, Kirby Lanoue, Bruce Fussell, Kip Dunlap, Jeff Holden and Greg Allyn. The Colquitt County Georgia Golden Olympic Girls will serve as honorary casketbearers.
Nadine was born on July 23rd, 1923 in Funston, Georgia to William Lomb Fussell and Annie Lee Gay Fussell. At age 6 she moved to Moultrie and made that her home. She was the oldest of four children.
Nadine graduated from Moultrie High School in 1942 where she was a member of the basketball team. She and her team mates never lost a game. She would remember that for many years and always enjoyed talking about it with her friends.
Nadine married Maurice Newsom on February 19th, 1944. They were married for 37 years until Maurice's death in 1981. Two years later, she married Leonard Dunlap and they enjoyed 25 wonderful years together until Leonard's death in 2008.
Nadine worked at Riverside and Sun State Manufacturing Companies most of her life but may best be remembered as a people greeter for Walmart.
Above all she loved her Lord and served him faithfully at Oakdale Baptist Church, Midway Freewill Baptist and later Madison First United Methodist. Jesus is her Lord and happy or sad she would cry "Happy Tears."
Many wonderful things can be said about Nadine Dunlap. She was a contagious woman, full of love and laughter. She enjoyed sewing, quilting, and crafts but her passion was people. She was a member of the Colquitt County Georgia Golden Olympic Girls. They traveled over Georgia and had years of fun and laughter. Her smile would light up any room and brighten anyone's day. She was a virtuous women, wife, mother, and friend. Even after her move to Madison, Florida, at age 89 she continued to be a gift of grace, love and peace to all who met her and will be dearly missed.
Nadine is preceded in death by two husbands, Maurice Newsom and Leonard Dunlap; two brothers, Bill Fussell and Doyle Fussell; and one sister, Janice Lanoue
Nadine is survived by her daughter Traci Laidlaw and husband Bob; two stepsons, Grady Dunlap and wife Kay and Randy Dunlap and wife Angele; two grandsons, Kip Dunlap and Cameron Dunlap; two sisters-in-law, Betty Fussell and Jo Smith; and a brother-in-law, J.B. "Buck" Newsome. She is also being survived by many nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM Saturday, January 14, 2017 at Midway Freewill Baptist Church.
