DOERUN, Ga. -- Mamie Elizabeth Powell Tompkins, 83, of Doerun, Ga., passed away Saturday, May 20, 2017 at her home.
Funeral service will be held at 2:00 PM Monday, May 22, 2017 at Oak Dale Baptist Church with the Rev. Charles Odom officiating. Interment will be in Oak Dale Cemetery.
Born April 9, 1934 in Plant City, Fla., she was the daughter of the late Delton Lee Powell, Sr. and Mary Etta Watson Powell. Mrs. Tompkins was a homemaker and a member of Oak Dale Baptist Church. Her family remembers how she was a wonderful loving Christian woman with a beautiful smile. Mrs. Tompkins loved the Lord, her family and her friends. She was a great cook, loved to sew and garden.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Howard Eugene Tompkins, Sr. and son-in-law, Dennis J. Yarbrough
Survivors include a son, Howard E. "Gene" Tompkins, Jr. and Becky of Tifton, Ga.; two daughters, Lula Tompkins Lamb and Tommy, Elizabeth Tompkins Yarbrough, all of Doerun, Ga.; grandson, Blake H. Tompkins of Macon, Ga.; special baby and grand-baby, CoCo Chanel Tompkins and Kinsi Kylie Yarbrough; two brothers, Delton L. Powell, Jr. and Barbara of Norman Park, Ga., Dennis J. Powell and Mary Faye of Berlin, Ga.; two sisters, Myrtle L. Thornton of Moultrie, Ga. and Betty Mallard and Charles of Norman Park, Ga.; several nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
The family will receive friends from 6:00 PM- 8:00 PM Sunday, May 21, 2017 at Cobb Funeral Chapel.
