Malvin "Rod" Langley, age 86, of Edgewater, Florida, died Monday, March 27, 2017.
Born in Meigs, Mr. Langley graduated Valedictorian from Meigs High School in 1948 and from Valdosta Technical College in 1950, with a degree in electronics. He served in the Navy during the Korean War and moved to Edgewater, Florida, in 1959, from Moultrie, Georgia.
Rod worked with NASA as Director of Launch Communications for the Mercury, Gemini, Apollo, and Space Shuttle programs in the launch command center, and trained astronauts on communication procedures. After retirement from NASA, he continued his work with Lockheed-Martin. He was a member of Smyrna Yacht Club, Edgewater-New Smyrna Elks Lodge #1557, and was a member of a camping club.
Survivors include his wife, Joanne of Edgewater; son, Steve Sadler of Tallahassee; daughter, Kelly Conway and husband, Craig, of Edgewater; sisters, Donnice Almond and Barbara McCord of Moultrie and Judy Ivey of Norman Park; sisters-in-law, Boots Langley of Thomasville, Joyce Langley of Zebulon, North Carolina, grandchildren, Savannah and Grant Meiring of Edgewater, Trevor Langley of Titusville, Florida
Shane Sadler of Tallahassee, Florida.
Memorial service will be 3:00 p.m. Sunday, April 9, 2017 at Bella Vista Baptist Church, with Pastor John Marsh officiating.
