Lonnie's Story

MOULTRIE, Ga. -- Lonnie Herbert "Jack" Stallings, 95, of Moultrie, Ga., passed away peacefully at his home on Tuesday, January 16, 2018 surrounded by his family.
Funeral service will be held at 2:00PM Friday, January 19, 2018 at Cobb Funeral Chapel with Elder Buck Wood and Elder John Phillips officiating. Interment will follow in Pleasant Grove Cemetery.
Casketbearers will be Ken Maxwell, Steve Maxwell, Gary Bowling, Jim Vanada and Bill Chesnutt.
Born May 18, 1922 in Moultrie, Ga., he was the son of the late James Carey "J.C." Stallings and Eva Lewis Stallings. After graduating from Moultrie High School, Mr. Stallings joined the U.S. Air Force as a Gunnery Instructor stationed at Eglin AFB, Florida, during WWII. At age 86, as a WWII Veteran, he participated alongside other veterans in the Honor Flight from Valdosta to Washington, D.C. to view the recently opened WWII Memorial. He retired from Moorman Feed to manage his own family farm and pursue his love of the outdoors, whether hunting, fishing or boating and camping. After his retirement he was associated with Leaf Maker Florist in Moultrie. Mr. Stallings was an active member of the Nature Conservancy and instilled in his family a lasting respect for the land and its flora and fauna. Mr. Stalling was known for his storytelling and entertained young and old alike. He was a member of Old Ty Ty Primitive Baptist Church for over 60 years and loved his fellow members. In his later years, he was affectionately known as "Sweet Daddy" and enjoyed being surrounded by his loving family.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, James Bryon Stallings.
Survivors include his devoted wife of 66 years, Leila Chesnutt Stallings of Moultrie, Ga.; sons, Ben Stallings and Terrell Stallings and wife Robbie, all of Moultrie, GA.; daughters, Rebecca Stallings and Lesa Stallings Bowling and husband Gary, all of Moultrie, Ga.; a cherished granddaughter, Rachel Stallings of Moultrie, Ga.; brother Don Stallings of Bainbridge, Ga.; sisters, Anne Stallings Vanada of Moultrie, Ga., and Mary Ellen Stallings Wasson of Atlanta, Ga.; several nieces and nephews and other family members.
The family will receive friends from 1:00PM-2:00PM Friday, January 19, 2018 at Cobb Funeral Chapel.
