COLLIERVILLE, Tenn. -- Former Moultrie resident John William Reid, 59, died after a brief illness, at Baptist Memorial Hospital in Collierville, Tennessee, on December 12, 2017.
Visitation will be held at Cobb Funeral Chapel at 5:00PM-7:00PM on Sunday, December 17, 2017. Funeral services will be on Monday, December 18, 2017 at 2:00 P.M., also at Cobb Funeral Chapel. Interment will be at Westview Cemetery.
Mr. Reid was born on June 18, 1958 in Glen Cove, New York, to Jack Donald Reid and Anne Louise Kincaid Reid. After the untimely death of both parents at a young age, he came to live with his loving aunt and uncle, Mr. and Mrs. Carlyle Trimble of Moultrie, and his cousins Quint, Polly, and Stuart.
Mr. Reid attended Abraham Baldwin Agricultural College and then went on to receive his BS degree in Business Administration from Valdosta State University in June of 1983. He worked over 30 years in the ag chemical industry for companies that included Griffin Agricultural Chemical Corp, Micro Flo Ag Chem, Helena Chemical Corp, Arysta Life Sciences and most recently, Control Solutions Ag Chem Co. During these years he was fortunate to have traveled internationally. In his younger years Mr. Reid was an accomplished drummer and played with several local bands. He never lost his love of music, the Colquitt County Packers, the Georgia Bulldogs and the Atlanta Falcons. Before leaving Moultrie, he was a member of Trinity Baptist Church.
Mr. Reid is survived by his daughter, Katherine Anne Reid of Collierville, Tenn., and her mother, Terry Allman Reid, also of Collierville; cousins Quint Trimble and wife Hong of Dalton, Ga., Polly Trimble Moore and husband Tim Moore of Blakely, Ga., Stuart Trimble and wife Lisa of Moultrie; his aunt Mrs. Robert Stabe of Huntington Valley, Pa., and her children Janet Linda Stabe, Robert Stabe, Peter Stabe (deceased), Janet Stabe, and Elisa Potero.
John was known as a great mentor to not only his daughter Katie, but to his nieces Loretta Lee Trimble McCranie, Sydney Jackson Taft and nephews Seth Kincaid Trimble and Joshua Rutledge Trimble.
