Mrs. Floyd was born November 3, 1928 in Adel, the first child of Ruth Moore Powell and Culbert William Powell. A 1947 graduate of Norman Park High School, she planned to pursue a nursing career. Instead, she married her soulmate and sweetheart, Harris Edward Floyd. They raised a daughter and a son and enjoyed over 56 happy years together until Harris passed away June 18, 2004. Virginia was a devoted wife and mother and always a Christian lady. She was a member of Taylor's United Methodist Church, Brunswick where as a young mother, she taught Sunday School and sang in the choir. As her children grew older, she had opportunities to develop her passion for nursing by working with several doctors and dentists who appreciated her caring nature and people skills.
Besides her parents and husband, she is preceded in death by her loving son, Donald Edward Floyd, and dear sister, Robbie Nell Powell Sadler. Left to cherish her memory include daughter, Ann Floyd Cason and husband Tommy, granddaughter, Kelli Cason Freeman and husband Eric, grandson, Thomas Cason, Jr. and great-grandson, Cason Freeman, all of St. Simons Island, brother, Buddy Powell, nieces, Brenda Gibbs, Debra Gillette and Wanda Worrell, all of Moultrie, nephew, Bill Powell of Orlando, several cousins and other relatives.
In lieu of flowers, donation to a favorite charity can be made in her honor.
The family expresses much appreciation to Colquitt Regional Hospice, Colquitt Regional Hospital 2nd floor nurses and staff, and Legacy Village staff for their special care and attention. Also, loving gratitude to wonderful caregivers, Debra and Joann.
