COOLIDGE, Ga. -- George Phillip Childers, 61, of Coolidge, Ga., passed away after a lengthy illness on Thursday, April 13, 2017 at Archbold Medical Center in Thomasville.
Funeral service will be held at 2:00 PM Monday, April 17, 2017 at Ione Freewill Baptist Church in Pavo with the Pastor Buford Groves. Interment will follow in Lebanon Cemetery in Pavo.
Casketbearers will be John Sloan, Nathan Sloan, Wes Parks, Dale Stephens, Nick Sloan, and John Sloan Sr.
Born January 25, 1956 in Atlanta, Ga., he was the son of the late George Carl Childers and Annie Lou McRae Childers. Mr. Childers was an employee of Destiny Mobile Homes and was a member of Big Creek Baptist Church. His family remembers how he loved playing his guitars and bass.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his poppy, Greene Phillip McRae, and granny, Elizabeth Theodoshia McRae Alday; brother, Carl Glenn Childers; and sister, Wynna Kaye Holloway.
Survivors include three children, Sueann Childers, George Carl Childers II, Kathrine Victoria "Baby Kate" Contreras and Fernando, all of Moultrie, Ga.; three grandchildren, Gabriel Aiden Childers, Ian Fernando Contreras, and Maximilliano Drake Contreras; a brother, Kenneth Stephen Childers and Jane of Pavo, Ga.; nine nieces and nephews, Denny Asbury Swymer, Rodney Harley Swymer, April Sunshine Uhlig, Brandon Neil Childers, Spencer Collin Childers, RT Milam Jr., Ira "Little Man" NeSmith Jr., Bridget Nicole Childers and Emily Jean Childers; several great-nieces and great-nephews; sister-in-law, Norma Jean Childers of Calhoun, Ga.; brother-in-law, Pat Holloway of Alabama; special friends and neighbors, Libby Bodiford and Shirley Morris.
The family will receive friends from 1:00PM - 2:00PM Monday, April 17, 2017 at Ione Freewill Baptist Church.
