Dorothy "Dot" Merle Henry Herrington, 89, of Doerun, Georgia, died Tuesday, Jan. 9, 2018, at Cobblestone Rehabilitation and Healthcare Center in Moultrie, where she had been a resident for the past few years.
A lifelong resident of Doerun. Mrs. Herrington was born April 20, 1928, to the late Ola Everett Henry and the late George Edward Henry. She was a graduate of Doerun High School and spent many years working in retail in Doerun. She later retired after 30 years as a bank teller at American Banking Co., now Ameris Bank, in Doerun. She was a member of Mount Sinai Baptist Church.
The funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, Jan. 11, 2018, at Mount Sinai Baptist Church, Doerun. Interment will be in the Mount Sinai Baptist Church Cemetery. The Rev. Steve Scarrow of Friendship Alliance Church will officiate. Visitation will be held an hour before the service at the church. Pallbearers will be Tim Henry, Buddy Bass, Jimmy King, Jarrell Sapp, Donnie Henry and Jose Avalos.
Mrs. Herrington was preceded in death by her husband of 52 years, Arthur Thomas Herrington; her daughter, Sandra H. Hortman; her brothers James Henry and Jesse Henry; her sisters Ruby Harper, Essie Tanner and Annie Hatcher; and a son-in-law, Earnest Frye.
Survivors include her daughter, Carol Herrington Frye of Doerun; grandchildren Cindy Blalock Montgomery (Trey) of Moultrie, Ronnie K. Blalock (Rebecca) of Doerun, Jerry Hortman of the Atlanta area, and Judy Hortman Mann (Randy) of Gulfport, Mississippi; great-grandson Evan B. Gambill of Macon; sister-in-law Wilma Kimbrell of Doerun; and many nieces and nephews.
