MOULTRIE, GA. - Charlotte Linda Stripling Mathis, 77, of Moultrie passed away on Saturday, July 6, 2019, at her residence.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM on Wednesday, July 10, 2019, at First Baptist Church Moultrie with Rev. Wayne Woods, Rev. Matt Peek, and Rev. Julian Griner officiating. The committal will be held in the sanctuary at the end of the service. Interment will be in Hopewell Church Cemetery. Visitation will be held at Cobb Funeral Chapel on Tuesday, July 9, 2019, from 6:00-8:00 PM.
Casketbearers will be Stephen Tyus, Haden Lee Mathis, Lavon Stripling, Judd Cato, Bob Craft, Frank Henson, Danny Parker, Thomas "Hody" Rutland, and Jim Tucker. The Adult 10 Sunday School Class of First Baptist will serve as honorary casketbearers.
Born on November 17, 1941, Mrs. Mathis was the daughter of the late Rev. Roy E. and Edith Tillman Stripling. She served as the Chief Financial Officer of Eagles of America at the Moultrie Municipal Airport. Mrs. Mathis graduated from Moultrie High School in 1959, worked as executive assistant for twenty years at Swift Packing Company, was the founder and cotton broker for CMAC, the Chief Financial Officer at Farmers Gin and Peanut Co., was a member of the Georgia Cotton Women's Association, and was appointed to the National Cotton Board. Charlotte became a Christian at the age of twelve and was instrumental in leading many of her family members to the Lord. She was known as someone who was selflessly devoted to family and friends, and she was known as a gifted businesswoman.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her brother Donnie Stripling and her sister-in-law Linda Russell Stripling.
Survivors include her husband, John Marion Mathis. They would have celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary on September 3, 2019. Additional survivors include daughter, Cindy Leigh Mathis Tyus and husband Steve of Moultrie, son Alan Lee Mathis and wife Dena of Moultrie; grandchildren, Leigh Anna Tyus Peek and husband Matt, Stephen Mathis Tyus and wife Emily, Julie Anne Tyus, and Haden Lee Blevins Mathis; great-grandchildren, Maddie Claire Peek, John David Peek, Ellie Grace Peek, and Ruthie Anne Peek; brother, Lavon Stripling and wife Beth of Moultrie, and sister Debby Stripling Whitley and husband Lane of Moultrie; sister-in-law, Joan Folsom and Raybun, and many other extended family members. Mrs. Mathis had looked forward to meeting her future great-grandson, Nathan Tyus in a few months.
Flowers will be accepted, or memorials may be made to First Baptist Church.
