ROME, Ga. -- Charles Mickle (Mike) Moye, 81, went to be with his Heavenly Father on July 20, 2017. He was born June 5, 1936 in Cuthbert, Ga. He grew up in Moultrie, was educated at Georgia Tech, and was a successful businessman in Atlanta for many years. He retired in Rome, Georgia with his family. His greatest accomplishment was the impact he had on all the people he came in contact with during his life's journey.
Mike was a loyal and loving husband who built a home and family with the love of his life and wife of 54 years, Lana Ball Moye. He took great joy and pleasure in spending time with his children, grandchildren and dear friends. He was a constant scholar whose hobbies and interests included photography, coins, travel, movies, and books. Sports season lasted all year in the Moye home, and Mike knew statistics and facts on every team and player.
A graduate of the Georgia Tech class of 1959 and member of Kappa Sigma Fraternity Alpha Tau chapter, Mike continued his education at Harvard Business School while in the banking industry. He was senior vice president of Citizens and Southern National Bank before serving in the capacity of president and chief executive officer of three different community banks. His distinguished career of 45 years culminated at his final post as Chief Executive Officer of the Security State Bank in Canton, GA. Post retirement, he continued to do consulting work and share his vast knowledge with his business contacts.
Management talent and leadership skills led and allowed Mike to serve in a variety of community organizations. Mike was a past president of the Canton Rotary Club and was most recently active in the Rome Rotary Club. He was past president of the Cherokee County Chamber of Commerce, where he served as a member of the board of directors and the executive committee, as well as vice president for economic development. Mike also served on advisory boards for the Cherokee County Boys and Girls Club, Reinhardt College, The United Way of Cherokee County, the Anna Crawford Children's Center, and the State YMCA of Georgia. Upon his retirement in 1999, Mike was honored with a Georgia House of Representatives resolution commending his extraordinary contributions to Cherokee County and the State of Georgia.
Mike Moye is preceded in death by his mother, Doris Groover Holmes; his father Andrew Jackson (AJ) Moye; grandparents, Charles and Lota Groover; and in-laws Carl and Vema Ball. He is survived by his loving wife Lana Moye; three (3) sons, Jeffrey Mickle Moye, Charles David Moye (Rebecca) and Ruffin Ball Moye (Lyn); sisters Myra Moye Morgan, Maribel (Cissie) Holmes Montgomery; brothers Allen Moye and Jim Hunt Holmes; grandchildren Lauren, Stone, and Palmer Moye and Lera Lynn.
A memorial service will be held July 29, 2:00pm, at H.M. Patterson & Son, Arlington Chapel, 173 Allen Road, NE Sandy Springs, with visitation at 1:00pm. The family requests in lieu of flowers that donations be made to the First Baptist Church of Rome (FBC) Foundation, 100 East 4th Ave., Rome, GA 30161, or your favorite charity.
