MOULTRIE, GA. -- A beautiful, kind, gentle, yet strong down-home southern lady named Cathirene "Cat" Duncan Galloway, 81, went to meet Jesus face to face and walk once again alongside her husband, on November 30, 2017. Cat was a true native of Moultrie and was born the 5th of 6 children on August 3, 1936 to the late Everett and Tessie Duncan.
On Sunday, December 3, 2017, a visitation will be held from 1:00 - 2:00 pm. The funeral service begins at 2:00 pm at Cobb Funeral Chapel, who is in charge of arrangements. Interment will follow at Cobb-Suncrest Memorial Gardens, where she will be laid to rest next to her loving husband. Pastors Collins Glenn, Randy Glenn, and Stanley Norman will be officiating. Flowers are welcome, but memorial contributions may also be made to the Benevolence Fund at Pine Grove Baptist Church.
Casketbearers will be Lance Rickett, Nick Bishop, Jacob Burdette, Chris Burdette, Joey Murphy and Jamie Harris.
After graduating from Moultrie High School, Class of '54, she married her high school sweetheart, Jimmy Galloway the day after Christmas in 1954. Early on she spent many years, not only caring for her own family, but also as a caregiver for other family members. She later went back to school and made her career as a bookkeeper/accountant.
Boiled peanuts, home cooking, cornbread dressing, sweet tea, and canning, will always be synonymous with the Galloway household, not to mention their southern hospitality frequently extended to neighbors and friends on the front porch swing and rockers. Jimmy and Cat always worked the garden growing beans, corn, tomatoes, along with pecan trees, pomegranates, and the scuppernong vine which will always carry the memories of their work ethic and dedication to care for the family. She loved her church where she was a devoted member of Pine Grove Baptist Church and a faithful giver to missions.
She is preceded in death by her husband of 54 years, Jimmy Galloway; 3 older brothers: Odell (Faye), Linwood, and Willard Duncan; and her youngest sister, Betty Jane Murphy.
She leaves to cherish her memory 2 daughters: Sheree (Ron) Rickett of Moultrie; Charlene (Cary) Bishop of Thomasville; 5 grandchildren: Rhonda (Chris) Burdette, Lance (Dalene) Rickett, and Nicholas Bishop (Taylor Hendricks); Kim (Stan) Gilliard; Barry (Mia) Bishop; 6 great-grandchildren, Jacob, Kaitlyn, Anderson Burdette and soon Alissa Jane Burdette; Lauren and Erin Gilliard; 1 sister, Duriene (Collins) Glenn; In-laws: Max ( Jorinda) Murphy, Catherine Duncan & Jeanine Duncan; several special nieces and nephews and other family members and friends.
